Hopefully, spring is headed our way soon--this winter has been one of the coldest in recent history here in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula!  Lately the mercury has been in the single digits nearly every day, and our snow pack is at normal levels for this time of the year.  This should all translate into a great spring runoff that will fill our rivers with water to last throughout the warm summer months.  This upcoming season promises to be outstanding.  Our past season saw plenty of world-class fish to the net and many great memories that will last a lifetime!  Make this the season to come up and enjoy the natural beauty of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula with Riversnorth Guide Service of Marquette.

St. Marys River Atlantic Salmon

The most unique fishery in the Midwest--the Atlantic Salmon is guaranteed to leave you speechless as you watch their airborne acrobatics as they test your angling skills.  Located in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, this fishery is tons of fun.  No passport is needed as all fishing is in U.S. waters aboard our U.S. Coast Guard inspected/licensed 18 ft. flatbottom river sled.  Using streamers and nymphs, these aggressive chrome Atlantics feed heavily once they enter the St. Marys River from Lake Huron.  Every season this fishery is getting stronger.  Fly fishing in the sunshine for chrome Atlantic Salmon--it doesn’t get much better!  Limited availability June 15 through July 15.

Mid-Summer Trout

So many options during the warmer summer months can often make one guessing which great Trout stream to fish!  Spring-fed creeks provide some great terrestrial opportunities as resident Brook Trout like the idea of grabbing a grasshopper off the surface for an easy big meal.  This is a beautiful time of the year to enjoy the Upper Peninsula.  Bring the family up for some camping and hiking as well as some quality Trout fishing (great for experts and beginners)!

Peak fishing occurs August through September.

Autumn/Early Winter Steelhead, Lake Run Brown Trout, and Pacific Salmon

Big fish on the fly--this fishery produces the largest fish of the season!  Using spey rods and single handed fly rods, we target these migratory fish using streamers and nymphs.  When the Chinook and Coho are actively spawning, it creates a plethora of eggs in our river systems for these fish to gorge themselves on--providing for some premier opportunities to say the least!  During this same time frame, the Steelhead and lake run Brown Trout respond aggressively to swung/stripped streamers.  The streamer fishing is a very unique, addictive way to target these fish.  The feeling of having one of these trophies pull on the other end of your line is an experience like no other!  Using large size 1/0 streamers, you are targeting the largest fish in the river--the chance of a Brown Trout over 10 lbs. is reality!

Peak fishing occurs October 1 through December 15.
